Dr. Victoria Luong, MD PhD(c)

IMG_7924.JPG

I am a PhD candidate and Research Associate at Dalhousie University, Halifax, NS, Canada. After completing my medical degree at the Université de Sherbrooke, my interest in the complexities of medical education led me to pursue research full-time. I therefore decided to complete a Master’s in Health Professions Education at Acadia University before pursuing my PhD. An experienced researcher, I work as a Research Associate in a well-respected and collegial research centre at Dalhousie University. I collaborate on multiple studies in medical education and regularly publish on cutting-edge topics within this field.

I wholeheartedly believe in the value of highlighting medical students' experiences as a way of improving medical education. Students who are struggling deserve to be supported and advocated for in a way that reflects their personal and complex needs.

I have already received national recognition for the scholarly potential of this research. I was the recipient of the 2024 AFMC John Ruedy Award for Excellence in Graduate Health Professions Education Scholarship due to my work related to academic struggle in medical education. I delivered the John Ruedy Symposium on the same topic during the 2024 International Congress on Academic Medicine (ICAM).

My work is supported by four internationally-recognized scholars in this field with expertise in qualitative research, sociological theories, assessment, and wellness; all four have a dedication to teaching and mentorship.
